rubbish day

It’s Rubbish Day - hence the black sack

One of the downsides to living in the centre of a small town (and there are a few - but not many) is waste disposal.  The narrow streets and pavements are not conducive to the four enormous waste bins that the council has decided each household should have.

Many of the houses are single or dual occupancy which means the waste bins are never full.  Far from it. Some people get round this by either sharing a food/green waste bin (we do this with Steve next door) or by putting their waste in plastic sacks.  Like the one above.

A few people in our small community use plastic sacks as well.  Sometimes when I walk down the road to collect our bin after it’s been emptied, I notice a mess on the ground - the bags have either split or been damaged in some way. It’s usually discarded food containers.

About 9.30 this morning I’m about to walk down and collect our bin - and there’s a fox standing next to the empty bins.  Just looking.

You don’t need to be Sherlock to guess that this may be cause of the mess.  Although to be fair to the animal, the containers are surprisingly clean.

It walks up towards where I'm standing then dodges behind the cars and hops over the wall onto the waste ground at the back of our house.  It’s not as large as the one I saw on top of our wall a few weeks ago, so perhaps mum to the wee grey face that Anniemay noticed on Saturday?

It made me smile - so not an entirely rubbish day after all.
