The Last Dance
To London with my sister for her birthday treat at last - seeing ice-skating legends Torvill & Dean at Wembley Arena performing on their final tour before retiring at the ages of 67 and 66 respectively. They’ve been dancing together, first as amateur athletes in the Winter Olympics and then as professionals, for 50 years and felt that this year was the right time to hang up their skates for good, bowing out with a spectacular show called ‘Our Last Dance’ to celebrate that 50th anniversary. They are supported by a hugely talented cast of professional skaters from around the world - truly some of the best in the business - including a selection of skilled and popular professionals from the ‘Dancing on Ice’ TV series. They also feature some skating stars of the future, with stunning routines performed by James Hernandez (3x National Junior Champion) & Phebe Bekker (2x National Junior Champion), and Luke Digby (4x National Champion) & Anastasia Vaipan-Law (Team GB athlete, 4x National Pairs Champion). Plus an enduring favourite from ‘Dancing on Ice’, Dan Whiston, who won the series several times over the years and is still a phenomenal ice dancer and choreographer. He wowed the audience with a clown routine as part of the Barnum set, including being ‘flown’ on silks (see Extras). Far too much content in the show to go into detail here, but of course Chris and Jayne danced a version of their famous Bolero routine, which got a much-deserved standing ovation. My sister and I were only five rows back from the ice, so we had a superb view - my phone photography doesn’t do it justice at all unfortunately. Also in Extras is a picture of me rinkside after the show. We returned home tired but happy, with memories of a wonderful experience which can never again be repeated.
Good luck to Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean with whatever they do in the future!
Thank you so much to everyone who showered me with stars, hearts and conblipulations on my cumulative 4-year mileston - what a lovely lot you all are x
