Almost there

Main event of the day was Liverpool’s less-than-inexorable march towards being Champions. Today’s match was against West Ham at home and, well, it was OK. Teams always get jittery when they are close to something big, and Liverpool are no exception. Looking at it from the outside, we are, post-game, 13 points clear with six games to play… yet there is still a sense of nervousness. This morning’s match (Ottawa time) had the added emotion of being on the anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster. Liverpool started exceptionally well, scored a very good goal, but couldn’t find the second to put the game to bed. The second half, however, was strange. Arguably, West Ham were the better side – and they scored an equalising goal with about four minutes to go. But then, out of the blue, Van Dijk (who had been to blame for the own goal that gave West Ham their equaliser) got the winner with a minute to play. A nervy and stressful end to a game that shouldn’t have been difficult.

With Ottawacker Jr. still out at his sleepover, I got down to some more of my translation. Mrs. Ottawacker went to get him but came back empty handed as he stayed on until mid-afternoon. More work, called Kathy to wish her a happy birthday, then more running around, a good dinner of shrimp and rice, and a finale to the evening that included Ottawacker Jr.’s introduction to Doctor Who. I picked up a couple of series from the BBC – the Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant sets – and we are indulging in a trip down Reminiscence Lane. I haven’t seen Doctor Who since I was about his age. He seems reasonably impressed – but this might be more to do with Billy Piper than the storyline.
