Jodogahama Beach

So we are at Jodogahama Beach for two nights, fairly far up the east coast of Japan, taking it a bit easier than we have been. After breakfast we headed down to the beach where there are quite spectacular rock formations and islands all in a row. The waves crashing over the rocks kept us watching them for about 20 minutes. I've added an extra of us at the beach.

We headed over to some viewpoints and while up one I noticed 2 animals below, initially I thought they were wolves as they were grey and furry, but they had horns and now looked about goat like, but different. I found out later they are Japanese Serows, a goat/antelope - I've added a second extra to show them full size. I was surprised how close they let me get to them, they were quite bulky like sheep but taller.

While we were at the beach, we thought we could see a waterfall in the distance coming down the cliff face, but google maps suggested it was a blow hole... so we drove over and walked down to the observation point. The waves come in, go through the rock formations and blast up like a fountain up to 30 metres high... now this also kept us entertained, we've not see one that goes so high before.

Back to the hotel to switch our rooms for the 2nd night as planned... oooh, views from our room over the beach and rocks, so we sat watching that until dusk. We jigged this part of our trip a bit, so glad it turned out as well as it did. Tomorrow we move on and hopefully can fit in Ms H's surprise but more importantly get to our next destination.
