Scotia Barrens: Tow Hill Ponds
"We're all just walking each other home." ~ Ram Dass.
It turned into a nice afternoon, and I decided to take my bike up Tow Hill to the Scotia Barrens, which has become sort of a second home to me. There is a steep hill that I walk my bicycle up, but I don't resent it because that very same hill is fun to zip back down when I'm done with my adventures. So much quicker coming DOWN that hill with no brakes on!!!
I stashed my bike in some pines, hiked out the trail, walked carefully down the knife edge, and visited one of the Tow Hill ponds. The reflections were very nice, and so here is my shot for the day.
There was a story out of Arizona that captured my attention on this day, and I thought that I would share it. A two-year-old boy wandered away from his home in Seligman, Arizona, and spent the night in the wilderness alone.
That toddler walked SEVEN MILES through mountain lion country, and in the morning, a rancher's dog, an Anatolian Pyrenees named Buford, found the boy sleeping under a tree and escorted him to safety, and to what I am sure was a joyful reunion with his family.
This is an amazing tale, and I am hoping that Disney will turn it into a movie. I for one would certainly pay to see it! The dog, the rancher said, would be rewarded with a steak dinner that night. Finally, some news that we are all happy to read!
"There's a thousand ways for that to go really, really bad, and one good way, and luckily it turned out to be the good way," the rancher said. The dog, Buford, reminds us to be kind, and to look out for one another. For after all, we are all just walking each other home.
Our soundtrack song is Bonnie Raitt, with Feels Like Home.
