Iris in the Rain
Yes, it rained this morning, a surprise for everyone. A cold grey rain, and then the sun finally came out around 4 pm.
It was the last meeting of the Spirituality of Aging study group, and we participated in a ritual to step over into Elderhood, to acknowledge and own our stories, to recognize the uniqueness of each life, to accept that there are no mistakes, to practice gratitude.
And this evening we went to a concert by Ablaye Cissoko and Cyrille Brotto, African kora and French diatonic accordion. Their sublime music seemed like an extension of the writing I did earlier in the day, a continuation of the conversations about love and connection and having an open heart. I sat between my husband and my son, and felt a current run through me that I have not known before, but that filled me and lifted me up to a different place. I wonder what it would be like for a person to sit between their parents and be open to such a shift of energy, to recognize the source.
