All The Van Gogh We're Going To See
Well, today is a bust.
We were booked (and had tickets for) a tour of the Van Gogh Museum today -- one of the few places we haven't visited on previous trips to Amsterdam. We were very much looking forward to today, until (after getting up much earlier than we would have liked) we arrived where the tour buses await their passengers only to be told that our tour had been canceled!
We were surprised, and asked why ... the officious tourist wrangler told us the tour had been canceled "a long time ago", and that we had been left a phone message about it. We never received any phone message. I asked why, in that case, had we had been issued tickets (within the past four days)? The woman just shrugged evasively, and muttered that the museum was closed today.
Walking disconsolately back to the ship, I wondered why on earth a world-famous museum would close its doors on a Friday. I then checked online, and lo and behold! The museum is open today -- ALL DAY -- from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. So we were fed a pack of lies, which just compounds our disappointment!
I purchased a Starry Night scarf at the cruise terminal gift shop (a gift for Mr. W's sister), and a small Van Gogh bag -- this is all the Van Gogh we'll be seeing today.
