More soup
I had not decided what to cook for lunch today, and I happened to stumble across a recipe online for which I had all the ingredients. So curried lentil and coconut soup it was. Very similar ingredients to my last soup, but a quite different result. And after I tweaked it to my taste (more spices, spinach), it was delicious. The recipe made masses, so there is plenty left to freeze.
In the evening A and B had invited me over to dinner along with P and M. P is a very talkative and rapid-fire speaker, so a bit of translation help was needed. We had a particularly lively conversation about regional languages, which it turns out M doesn't approve of ("We're in France, everyone should speak French!"). This was a bit tactless as earlier we'd been talking about A's poetry, written in Scots. He also claimed contentiously that Breton was a dialect! Anyway it was all good fun. Home near midnight.
A had cooked an Italian themed meal, and had commented to me earlier in the week that she couldn't find anywhere to buy focaccia. Yesterday it occurred to me that I could bake one. So ... I did that today, making it harder for myself by choosing to do a sourdough one. It took all day to rise, and then I overbaked it slightly. Still, I cut off the too-crispy bits round the edges and it was perfectly acceptable and went well with the Italian charcuterie.
