Reflections In Blue At The North Pole
It's been a bit of a week so far. I began to feel a bit under the weather on Monday and by Tuesday I'd run into my first stonking cold of the year. It knocked me out for a good couple of days but luckily it receded quicker than previous bad colds I've had. It did mean, though, that I really didn't feel like going out with my camera at all.
Wednesday brought along another problem. At first we thought it was a power cut but weirdly all the lights still worked but none of the sockets, so no telly, no computer, no washing machine and no hot water. We checked the circuit breaker under the stairs and noticed one of the switches had tripped so we tried flicking it back into it's "up" position a few times but it just tripped again. Eventually, after about nine attempts it stayed up and everything worked again. Unfortunately, this lasted only an hour or so before it tripped again - arrrrhhhh! We checked with our electricity suppliers and they confirmed there had been no power cut so they suggested we contacted UK Power Networks. They were knowledgeable and helpful and we tried their suggestions but nothing worked so they told us we'd have to get hold of an electrician (bugger!). We did, however, know a good one and contacted him and he came round only an hour or so later. To cut a long story short he checked all the sockets and when he got to one in the kitchen he found out what the problem, or rather the culprit was. A mouse had got behind a plug socket (there was tiny gap in the brickwork behind it) and eaten it's way through the wiring. Needles to say the little critter electrocuted itself in the process and was found in situ stiff as a board! Total cost £150 - which included buying some mousetraps to capture any others if they appear.
Yesterday featured a creature of a different kind - a large pigeon managed to get stuck down our chimney! We have a mobile eclectic fire at the bottom of it so managed to move it out of the way. The bird was terrified, flapping its wings and throwing a lot of dust and soot around but my brother then had a great idea - get a big sheet, throw it over the bird and then see if we could remove it. This worked a treat - it stopped flapping and I managed to get both hands round it and carry it to the front door. We then lifted the blanket when we got outside, it stood still, blinked a few times and then flew off into the big blue sky!
The highlight of the week, though, was my team Arsenal beating the mighty Real Madrid over both legs in the Champions League. It was pure joy to see an over-entitled team full of supposed world beaters be taught a lesson in tactics and team togetherness. Mbappe was virtually anonymous and didn't work nearly hard enough. They got what they deserved - nothing!
After all of that drama today we decided to pop for a quiet drink to the North Pole pub near Wateringbury. It has a lovely sunken garden at the back so we sat there and consumed our beverages while the sun shone.
My image was taken in the car park out the front - I loved the shape and form of this car and the reflections in its shiny metal work.
