Lake Gull

It's really strange that the locals call these birds Sea Gulls...........we're 1000 miles from the nearest sea.  They frequent the shores of Lake Michigan where this shot was taken but they move inland in the fall when the farmers are plowing soil and there's many things to eat there....worms, grubs, insects, snakes.   They also tend to frequent land fills where the picking is good among human garbage....hence another local name of Garbage Geese.

This is a Ring-billed Gull (Larus delawarensis) and it is one of the most common of the gulls in Wisconsin.  I just thought of another thing....they are often found around the Zoo in Milwaukee where they scavenge the animal feed.
