Little trip through the Galloway Forest Park today with Mrs F and I ending up in Newton Stewart for a late lunch. The weather was a bit mixed but we did manage to take in a few great views on the way.

This is the bridge over the River Cree, built in 1813, to replace a bridge from 1745 that was destroyed by floods in 1806. In 1329 it is said that Robert the Bruce forded the river here on a pilgrimage to the shrine of St. Ninian at Whithorn.

The horror movie The Wicker Man was filmed on location in and around Newton Stewart and had its premiere in the town’s cinema in 1972.
