I blipped the beautiful lilac bush in the Vicarage front garden last Wednesday, not realising that our own lilac bush was still completely bereft of blooms, with no buds visible either. We planted it in May 2019 and it has looked wonderful every year until now, so I’m not sure what’s gone wrong this year.
However, on careful inspection this afternoon, I spotted this single bloom hiding amongst the foliage, so hopefully it’s just having a rest year and will be back on form in the future.
Otherwise it’s been a busy day preparing for a 40th birthday lunch tomorrow for The Traveller’s girlfriend. Given her reaction when I served her lemon meringue pie for the first time, there was no contest about what we were going to have for dessert! The Traveller has also requested that I make a lemon drizzle cake for her to serve as a birthday cake because that, too, always goes down very well with the aforementioned birthday girl!
