Black!

Black Highland Cattle almost died out entirely thanks to Queen Victoria. She preferred the red ones, and had a fold established at Balmoral. Following her lead with that enthusiasm only the Victorians could muster, breeders shunned the traditional variety and concentrated on reds until there were almost no black breeding lines left.

This fellow was the first calf born at the farm this year, and came as something of a surprise, given that his mum is (technically) white and his father most definitely red with blonde highlights.
