High Collar

My latest addition to my collection of old wedding photos.  This is from the 1890's to about 1910.  The high collar was very much in fashion during this period.  It was made popular by Queen Alexandra (the wife of Edward VII).  She always wore high collars or maybe a necklace as she had a scar on her neck that she wanted to hide.

I think the bride's headdress is probably made of orange blossom and the grooms seems to be wearing a buttonhole of it in his lapel.  However, I am no expert on identifying flowers so someone maybe be able to confirm if I am right.  Orange blossom is often used at wedding as it symbolises purity, chastity and eternal love.  It is used in many cultures.  Queen Victoria wore a simple garland of it in her hair (rather than a tiara) when she married Prince Albert.  Since then many royal brides have incorporated orange blossom into their bouquets, patterns on their dresses etc.

Other things to note are that the bride has a small waist and strong features and her husband looks pretty terrified.

My last entry was a special anniversary - my 2,000th Blip.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the amazing comments, hearts, stars etc.   I really appreciated them and it only served to confirm that Blip is a really great place to be part of.
