The first cuckoo

Eight of us set off this morning from Aston-on-Clun in the rain on a nine mile walk that would take us over Hopesay Hill, along the Shropshire Way to Kempton and then the long climb up to Burrow Hillfort. We reached the top, our designated lunch stop, just as the rain stopped, the sun came out and I heard my first cuckoo of the spring. Magic. Burrow is one of the best, and least visited, of Shropshire's many Iron Age hillforts. It feels remote, we saw no-one else all day, and yet it is less than 15 minutes from home. The 360 degree views are spectacular. I will walk it again, next time with my 'proper' camera rather than my mobile phone.
