Clematis montana

I have loved this clematis variety ever since I lived in Castle Acre and a neighbours' wall was covered in it every year.  I have tried to grow it in Linton unsuccessfully up until now.

During the small-children-years - I used to plant things like this is a flurry of enthusiasm one weekend and then notice they'd died a few weeks/months later.  More recently I've learned about aspect and regular  watering...

Even so, this sunny spot at the bottom of the garden, has failed for the last two years because of the late frosts.  I thought I'd give it another try and *wow*, I knew the climber was thriving on the garden side of the wall, but today I noticed how much it has flourished in  the alleyway at the side of our house.

I'm so pleased.
