Apple Blossom

Last year there was a local scheme to give free apple trees to people lucky enough to have a garden. We were fortunate to be given a tree and we planted it in the front garden. It's James Grieve, a well known, reliable and fairly compact variety developed in Scotland in the 19th century . Last year it had some blossom but we removed it to allow the tree to establish itself. This year I'm letting the blossom flower but I won't let any fruit develop. Next year - let's hope for a crop. There are lots of apple and other fruit trees in this neighbourhood, some of them many years old. Good to have new trees coming along.  Here's some of the pretty blossom in very early morning light.

Busy day ahead. I'll be collecting the girls from school this afternoon and will have a couple of hours with them. I wasn't as diligent in the garden yesterday as I'd intended so that's definitely on the cards today.
