Portobello Beach Edinburgh Day 348
The road to the isle of Inchkeith ...
This is the view looking down the old raised beach towards Joppa Esplanade with its modern bandstand.
Just off the shore this morning I blipped a large flotilla of ducks. They were feeding on some plentiful supplies just below the surface. Whatever they were feeding on was also of interest to some dive bombing gulls. The ducks were undeterred. For a moment I was hoping they were grouse.
Today is the so called glorious twelfth for those who take to the moors in tweed with double barrels. I read that this year is a good one for the hunters and will generate millions for the Scottish economy. The late spring and warm summer have been good for the grouse apparently. Not a view shared by the grouse, I am sure, or those of us who are anti blood letting in the name of sport.
