Mary Rose Underwater?
I felt it was time for another visit to the Mary Rose in the Historic Dockyard, Portsmouth.
This fascinating museum first opened in 1984, soon after the Mary Rose was raised from the bed of the Solent in 1982. She was one of the largest in Henry VIII's fleet, but was sunk in the Battle of the Solent against the French in 1545.
The shipping hall, located in one of the historic dry docks, has been at the heart of the museum since then, holding the Mary Rose on the cradle that bought her to the surface during the 35year conservation project. I have visited a number of times during this project and the development of the museum dedicated to showing her and the amazing artefacts found.
The current state of the art museum opened in 2013 while she was still drying out in a "hot-box" behind glass walls. These were finally removed to in 2017 allowing the public unhindered views of her.
For today's blip I took inspiration from Ingeborg's Abstract Thursday Challenge to use ICM to try to imagine what those numerous divers and archaeologists working on the wreck may have seen before she was finally raised.
