Desperately seeking

Here's Looking At You, Kid!

Sometimes I think our wood pigeons have been to London and learnt from their feral cousins that people are providers of food. Our pair come to the bird table at the other side of the house and, if there is no seed on it, stare in through the window at us.

I needed a bit of quiet relaxation this morning so I took the camera down to my little woodland garden. Our pigeons nest in the chamaecyparis Lanei down there. This one appeared on a branch in front of me and spent a while staring at me. I had no food!

Wood pigeons mate for life and something else I learned just now from Google backs up a bit of what I was talking about:-

"Pigeons have demonstrated remarkable memory and recognition skills in various studies. They can differentiate between human faces, a trait that is relatively rare in the animal kingdom."

Now do they amaze you?
