Fine venue
A tonic of a day. I ploughed through the to do list, especially first thing in the morning before getting dressed, but also later on in the hotel in Glasgow before heading to the dinner. A very pleasant lunch with JMacL in Contini's in the NGS. Much to catch up on. A peloton workout to keep me sharp.
And above all an excellent dinner (LSS annual gala dinner) at the Kelvingrove. I have to say, I think the Kelvingrove is a better venue than the one for last year's dinner. Slightly more spacious. You catch glimpses of the art. I managed to catch up with quite a few people I knew (and there were more there that I knew than I expected), and I enjoyed chatting to the people on my table, none of whom I knew previously. The main guest speaker - Sheriff Principal Aisha Anwar - was inspirational. And all the speakers were women, as the CEO, the President and the Vice President (and thus President elect) of the LSS are all women. Maybe they should have invited a male guest speaker, just for "balance", lol.
I had a bit of a reality check over taxis, though, as the taxi I took up to the Kelvingrove from my city centre hotel was reluctant to take a card and warned me against picking up a cab from the street and expecting it to take a card. I'd left all the cash I had with me in the hotel room. Consequently, I redownloaded the Uber app and used that to get me back again. The only problem was that I programmed the wrong Ibis Styles hotel into the app, so ended up in a different part of Glasgow city centre than I wanted to be. That meant a slightly dodgy feeling 12 minute walk from there back to the right hotel. It was fine, and there was no real edge to the place (but a lot of people around), but I did think, halfway along the road, that it might be one of the less sensible things I'd done. No harm done, though. And checking back at last year's equivalent entry, I see that I had an interesting journey home after that dinner. I had to use the bus and walk up Bangor Road!
