A day of indolence
and yet a few things got done. For instance I dyed TSM’s hair, which takes about half an hour (although it seems like longer as the process is very intense). And I did enough work in the garden to keep me satisfied. Gardening is a little and often enterprise I have decided, which is why it suits retired people so well.
I am reading a novel - have nearly finished it in fact - called Butter. It is about a woman who develops a complex relationship with cooking, a convicted felon, and - well, butter. It is by a Japanese author called Asako Yuzuki. I am reading a lot of Japanese fiction these days. 1Q84. Tokyo Express and now this. Anyway there is a thing about eating rice with a knob of melted butter and some soy sauce, so I tried it tonight with vegan butter. It is amazing. Something simple that is transformative to the taste and texture of the rice.
The picture is of a blackbird who has taken a liking to us at the moment. His chirruping and chattering are constant and a bit annoying. He teases the cats and runs up and down the fence. So I took some pictures of him.
Today was warm and at times sunny. Next week is going to be proper summer, they say.
