Life in Sunny Dubai

Masgouf

(27.4.25)

I can’t believe it's just a week since Good Friday! Today has been eventful. I beat all my date buddies with the date. As a result, I got an iced coffee from G. I should say, Diane is back, and it was great to meet her and have a good catch-up.

We were scheduled to have haircuts after I finished work, but plans changed to dinner with Farzan and a friend. Before that, though, we had to race to the Immigration Department to get special permission to have our visas renewed without company bank statements. Unfortunately, the person in charge wasn’t there, so we have to go back on Monday.

I chose the dinner venue based on where we would end up for dessert (Afrina – as Farzan owes me a faloodeh). When G lived in Baghdad, she enjoyed eating a special fish they caught in the Tigris River. It’s called Masgouf. A few years ago, a restaurant opened in Dubai which serves it. Masgouf is a large fish, and you need several people to do it justice. I’ve been trying for ages to get a group together, but it hasn’t worked out. Today was the day. Farzan, Peter and G tucked into the fish (they ate all 2.5 kgs of it), and I had chicken kebabs.
