Collaboration

Brass Bands England is running a collaborative programme called 'Elevate'. It is aimed at enabling member bands to challenge their normal performance practice by being paired with an artist who will support them to explore new ideas, genres and ways of working in a new collaborative partnership.
Our band was successful in our application to participate and were paired with Sonic Threads Duo, a classic Indian vocalist and harpist. Following a workshop earlier this year we met today at the Bristol Hindu Temple and were filmed playing traditional Indian Raga music. This is well outside of our comfort zone as it is largely based on improvisation. An interesting and great new experience in music-making which I thoroughly enjoyed (though some less so!).
