Whimbrel

A lot of whimbrels are passing through Orkney heading north just now, so I headed out to look for some. I cycled to Rerwick Head in Tankerness. On the way I saw ten whimbrel in a field, but distant. At Rerwick I set up in a wartime searchlight emplacement, part of the coastal battery there.  There were turnstones, purple sandpipers, dunlin, distant common scoters and great northern divers etc. This whimbrel flew onto the shore not far from my 'hide', which was handy.
