Mallard on one leg on log

Early this morning the pond was alive with activity.  At one point there were  5 male Mallards on the water and a Moorhen.  Still no sign of the Swallows and the Wagtails have moved on.  A bad sign, perhaps driven away by the Magpies?  I wish they'd chase the moles away!
