Stay coolant
Back into the garage today to see about Fidra's coolant leak. I spent a lot longer flushing the radiator and hosing the dirt out of the fins than I did tightening hose clips. Getting the twin fans off ended up with a broken motor mount since the metal was badly corroded – of course; it seems to be a theme with Honda's radiators – but I constructed a repair with a piece of stainless steel ruler. Hosing it down revealed that the radiator fins are pretty bad, and the entire thing probably ought to be replaced sometime. But with all the hose clips tightened and the radiator back on it was time to test…and no leaks. I pressurised the system and tried again, and…no leaks.
So in theory it's just the idle adjuster now to fix, but that's a job I'm trying to avoid doing. The Honda Pan European is an amazing piece of engineering but it's so complex it's really beginning to test my resolve.
I finished up and washed my hair, then while the sun was still out and the air still very mild I cycled out to the supermarket for some basics.
Today's photo is my attempt to capture a droplet of coolant splashing and rebounding from the drain tray. It is much harder to achieve than I imagined.
