Well, it was inevitable, wasn't it?

Today was the day that Liverpool won the championship for the 20th time, and in doing so became indisputably England’s most successful club team. Looking back, it has been on the cards for weeks, but the “supporter” in me is always terrified about an implosion or a slip up or something extraneous (like Covid) coming in to spoil the party. Don’t mock, this is what happened last time. But it all went according to plan today and Liverpool duly dispatched Tottenham 5-1 to get the three points we needed to make the final 4-5 rounds of games meaningless.

To celebrate it, or to participate in the coronation, we were invited to Thomas and Elissa’s for lunch and to watch the game on his large screen. It wasn’t going according to script to start with. T & E had a flood in the basement (faulty water heater) and while Thomas was cooking the lunch, Elissa was wading around in her wellingtons. These two are an exact parallel of my and Mrs. Ottawacker’s relationship. She does all the hard work, and I look pretty. Thankfully, she didn’t make too much noise during the game. (That was a joke.) Then, on top of that, Tottenham opened the scoring after 15 minutes…  the good thing about that is that (a) it was Tottenham and (b) it knocked a lot of the nervousness out of the players. After that, it was one-way traffic.

Ottawacker Jr. then departed to watch the inaugural match of the new Ottawa-based women’s soccer franchise, the Ottawa Rapid, who were hosting AFC Toronto in the brand-new league. Ottawa won 2-1, so it was a good day all around. I drove home, welcomed Mrs. Ottawacker back into the fold with dinner, and we had a quiet night in. Just for a change.

Not sure if anyone has a Facebook account still, but this video is a good watch if you are interested in the football
