A pear

Laurie: We have a pear!

Me: A pair of what?

Laurie: On the tree! A pear!

Me: A pair of what?

Laurie: Fruit. The pear tree.

Me: So there are two?

Laurie: No, just one pear.

Me: So a pair of them?

Laurie: NO! One. Single. Pear.

Me: Oh. Wow, a bumper crop.

The Asian pear tree was planted a couple of years ago in hopes that cross pollination would occur and our other pear tree would finally bear fruit. It's been in the garden for 14 years and has never produced a pear, nor a pair of pears.
