Things that Go Bump in the Night
We have just had a weekend of reunions with family. Many memories were shared. I thought a lot about my growing up years, my parents and my heritage. Sometimes the strangest little details surface. Today's challenge of scary brought back a memory of having to use an outdoor toilet. It was particularly scary at night, even with a flashlight. In order to calm my fears, I would imagine that it was daylight and the fear would vanish, because during the day there were no scary things along the path. When I told my mom about this she tried to correct my logic, or rather lack thereof, but at the same time I suspect was in a dilemma herself, since correcting my logic would cause me to be afraid! She did however let me know that there are things at night that are not there in the daylight!
I chose this photo for a couple of reasons -
I have been "playing" a little with longer exposures in low light situations, and because I started to think about the scary things in adulthood, one being bears. Not this bear, of course. He looks rather friendly, I'd say. But, we have lived, camped and picked berries in locations where it is of utmost importance to adhere to bear safety practices. I probably err on the side of being too cautious and have a can of bear spray, not yet used, but just in case...
