The tourist write-up says that the height of Beacon Hill near Danby (N Yorks) makes it a good site for communications. I looked up expecting to see a mobile phone transmitter or some such, but no, they were referring to something else...

Beacons were set here to warn of the Spanish Armada apparently. Today this sculpture adorns the site.
