Is That Him Now Weeping Uncontrollably?

Curley’s wife has been crossed out in this note-
book. Someone must have concluded that she
is surplus to requirements . Who wrote
this down and then put a line through it? We
can hazard a guess, I guess. My guess is
- it is Curley himself who’s decided
that the time has come for her to just piss
off. He’ll be fed up with being derided
in public by her and has observed her
as others see her – Curley’s sharp-tongued wife.

It’s so obvious why he feels bitter –
she causes him pain and ruins his life.
Yet, this is the girl he once held, loved, kissed.
‘Good riddance,’ he now says, ‘She’ll not be missed.'
