Woollen Woods
I last blipped the goings on in the woods at Acorn Bank in April. There are now a lot more things in the trees and they seem to have survived the weather over the last few months. They attract a lot of attention as people are walking through the woods. Unfortunately I chose a bad day to see them again, as there was no light and of course the leaf cover is at its most impenetrable. But I thought a few of them would give an idea of what there is.
I thought I would give a bit of an explanation re the Woollen Woods. It's part of an Eden District project over the summer called Canopy. Artworks in trees is the idea. You may remember the signs in the trees in Ullswater and the butterflies in the tree.
However, the main CANOPY exhibition is at National Trust property Acorn Bank - ‘The Woollen Woods’. This exhibit features hundreds of woodland themed woollen artworks; all made using 100% wool, in support of ‘The Campaign for Wool’. The public were invited to take part by making artworks for the exhibition and the project has sparked international interest. The Woollen Woods features work submitted by artists, schools, groups and individuals from throughout the UK and beyond, including Australia, Bulgaria, Canada, Germany and America.
