ASPIRANTARTISTS

On Wednesday afternoon the task set for the art class was making a paper carrier bag. The children were helped with the cutting, folding and gluing. They were then asked to draw a picture of themselves on the front of the bag.
While they were doing this I invited each child individually to come outside with me and choose where they wanted to posed for a photo.
The options were- sitting on a log, standing in front of a car or some plants standing on the top stair of a flight of stairs. I was interested to see who chose what.
Jade-lynn chose to sit on the log, while shy little Nicole struck a pose on top of the stairs. Did the height give her confidence?
Kind, helpful Revaldo chose to stand in front of my car crossing his hands with spread fingers. When I asked him what it meant he mentioned gangsters. His idea of being empowered? With that cheerful smile I can't imagine anyone less likely to become a gangster.
Dianahlene was confident and knew exactly how to pose. Obviously she has had lots of practice in front of the mirror!
Next week they will decorate the other side of their bag and the photo of themselves will be centre piece.
