This time tomorrow...
...where will we be? On a spaceship somewhere sailing across an empty sea...
Actually, this time tomorrow I'll be off the spaceship and across the sea, probably snoring my way through my first night in Abuja. Spent the majority of today avoiding thinking about what I am taking on, for fear of over-thinking it too much, instead spending a pretty absurd amount of money on boring items recommended such as toothpaste, deodorant and vitamins.
Mum's best friend, Bev, who over the years has also become a great friend of mine, was meant to drive me to the train station in order for me to begin the tedious journey from the Borders to Edinburgh Airport Travel Lodge (train, bus, taxi, bus, taxi...) but before I knew it, we were half way to Edinburgh. She just smiled as I realised she was taking me door to door, and having done many similar journeys herself, she knew how grateful I was for such a kind gesture. Mum seems to have settled well into her room in Millport after her first day.
Ate the most disgusting fish and chips in the 'bar-cafe', but 5 mouthfuls in - even after telling myself that in a month I'd probably devour the lot - I couldn't handle it and came up to my room for a few skype conversations and an early night before the 4am check-in...
Unfortunately I have to admit that my second blip is a bit of a cheat...I did not take this photograph today, but last week when I went back to Kenya to see this Aussie cowboy. Having visited Kenya from a young age, thanks to my godfather and father, I have grown up with this place as a home away from home. However, I have to admit, the ranch got a whole lot more exciting when James and his family moved from Australia to become my next door neighbours, and the two and a half weeks I spent there were wonderful. They are an incredible family who have welcomed me in as one of their own and I am so proud to know them all individually and as a family. This was a picnic at 'Mayai Dam' James and I went on last week and a photograph I know I will look back on during the more challenging days in Abuja.
