hazelh wins a T shirt at the Fringe

Another ordinary August day in Edinburgh involved leaving the house at 10:30 for five Fringe shows:

1. Aaaand now for something completely improvised
2. Beulah
3. Britain's got f*ck all talent
4. Festival of the spoken nerd
5. Baby wants candy

All were entertaining, and four out of the five worth recommending to others. If you follow my journal regularly, there's a good chance that you'll be able to guess from the title which show in the list above was least suited to my tastes ;-)

The stand-out show for me, however was Beulah. The narrative was so touching and personal, and the music so beautiful, that from about 10 minutes into the performance I was gulping back the tears with little success. By the time the show ended I was an emotional wreck clinging to a sodden hanky, desperate to get out into the open so that I could wail in peace without disturbing the performers. Mr hazelh was very moved by it all too. What a soppy pair we make. (Strangely the woman who had been waiting in the queue in front of us before the performance said to us afterwards "What a load of sentimental twaddle. Monty Python did it much better." We concluded that she can't ever have been in love, and has a heart of stone.)

The two other highlights of the day were (1) winning the prize draw T shirt at Baby wants candy (blipped here - and oddly connected to yesterday's picture) even though it is far too big for either of us, and (2) bumping into Shandonner in the street on the way home.

In other news my sister was greatly relieved to report that my nephew did very well in his A levels. I see that he has already changed his Facebook entry to show that he is an undergraduate at Manchester University. Lucky boy!

Exercise today - more racing around town to Fringe venues.
