Wembley

Just a back blip from our wonderful visit to London and Wembley. Our teenage grandsons' first away game and they had an absolute ball! From our arrival at Euston Station and our walk to King's Cross to our hotel they were both amazed at the welcome they received from Londoners and tourists. The older one and his grandad wore their kilts , hats etc , all in perfect condition and looked so smart, the younger grandson was just as smart in " civvies" as he had , had enough kilt wearing at Mods where he was a gold medallist and vowed never to wear kilt again.

Anyway London was it its usual August best , warm and sunny from the evening we arrived till we left this morning ( that is apart from about twenty minutes before the game when the heavens opened )

Off course we had to be part of the Trafalgar Squre party for a few hours and the boys and John joined in the games and the sing song. Met lots of tourists , many of them from across the Atlantic who were delighted join in the fun.

Tonight's blip shows one of the boys hands looking as if he is praying as he watches the celebrations.

A visit to Westminster and the Embankment to see old haunts as they have been in London on holiday with us several times before; then on the tube to Wembley Park Station. This is the first time we have been there since they built the new stadium, very impressive indeed.Although I seem to remember Wembley Way having more character in the old buildings when we walked down there in the 70s and 80s. Still it was really nice to hear the vendors say it was great to " have you lot back again "

By now everyone knows it was a dood result for England and best of luck to them in the rest of their qualifiers.
No need to go into great detail about the match apart from saying it was very entertaining and we thrilled to say " We came , we saw and we were not out of place" Thank "Gord" for that and for our continued improvement.

The boys really enjoyed the whole thing and it was wonderful to see how they responded to the atmosphere and sang their hearts out all night - well with the voices they are so blessed with the singing around us was great .Not quite as melodic as that which you hear in Cardiff from the Welsh fans , but definitely enthusiastic and even tuneful in certain songs. Wonder how we can get them ll to sing together and tune in to the ame key. John says they sing on the key of Chub.

Oh well their next game is a home game at Hampden against Belgium , one of the best and most natural players in the tournament. Here's hoping we continue to improve and do better than we did in Brussels last year. In the song by John Gordon Sinclair " We Have A Dream ".
