Glengoyne Distillery

Thursday turned out to be a wet and cloudy day so any tourism was destined to be under a roof. We headed to the Glengoyne Distillery about half an hour north of Glasgow. Actually it turned out to be a bit longer due to a lengthy diversion as the A81 was closed just before we got to the distillery.

Lots of tourists there, in fact more than the distillery expected so we had to be split in to two groups. A pleasant distillery in an attractive setting. We were told this is one of only 14 independently owned distilleries in Scotland. I reckon I have been to at least four of them. Despite being so far south it qualifies as a "Highland" distillery. I refrained from buying a bottle of 40 year old malt despite the very modest £3,750 price tag. I did leave with a 12 year old however.
