The Round House

The Duke of Wellington often stayed nearby. The Round House was built to commemorate his visit to the farmhouse where he remarked that the view from the top of the house reminded him of a panoramic view of the fields of Waterloo. It is said that on a clear day it is possible to see 40 Churches from the top of the tower.
Although actually in the parish of Burton Latimer it also borders 3 other parishes - Addington, Finedon, and Woodford. Therefore, I suppose they could be asked to pay four lots of Council tax!
Historically it was a lienced premises regularly frequented by working men and poachers from the surrounding villages as it was quite remote until after a third Police raid the licence was revoked.
