Testing Exposure Compensation
I recently learned about ‘exposure compensation’ to tone down the glare of some white or light colors. Today was all about experimenting with that new (to me) feature - it was somewhat successful. So many times a white butterfly looks like a glow light once it's downloaded. This shot could definitely be sharper, but at least it doesn’t look like a bright, bare light bulb!
I also had reasonable success with the male goldfinch. Evidently the way his feathers absorb the light, the deep yellow washes out & has a ghostly white glow to it. There’s still a bit at the shoulder, but much better than before. Now to adjust so the background isn’t quite so dark. (So much to learn about focusing beyond automatic!)
I saw the deep red male cardinal at the feeder today for the first time. I was able to get ONE shot before he flew off – he was gone in an instant. The shot isn’t as focused as it should be, but I’m posting it on Flickr just to commemorate the day. I think he’ll need exposure compensation too, because he was definitely a deeper red than the camera picked up.
