Bits and Bobs!

Kilts, kilts, and even more kilts!

"The "second sight" possessed by the Highlanders in Scotland is actually a foreknowledge of future events. I believe they possess this gift because they don't wear trousers." G.C. Lichtenberg

How do you sum up a wonderful, action-packed day at the Aberfeldy Show and Highland Games in one photo? Impossible!!

The day started with the judging of the cattle, sheep, Highland ponies and Clydesdale horse classes.

The Highland dancing events then took over, along with the Heavy Weight events: the stone put, Scottish hammer throw, weight throw for distance, weight throw over the bar, the sheaf toss and not forgetting the caber toss of course. And all accompanied to the background sound track of the Bagpiping events.

There were running races, around the track and up the neighbouring hills, for children and adults, and dogs! The terrier race was hilarious, with more interest being shown in chasing the lure by the owners than the dogs.

The prestige event for the Heavy Weight athletes was the carrying of the Menzies Stone, Menzies being the local Clan who earlier paraded into the show ground for the official opening of the games by their Chieftain.

To finish the day, the Tug o' War competition. And all in such a beautiful setting, right beside the historic Wade’s Bridge and the River Tay, surrounded by lovely views to Weem Rock to the north and the hills of Glen Lyon to the west - what better way can there be to spend a day with such a magnificent backdrop?
