Food Yards

A lot is said these days about the distances our food has to travel before it hits our plates and yes I agree that some of the distances are quite large but on this occasion and in regards to hand picked strawberries it is measured in foods yards and the distance traveled is about twenty yards from one side of the road to the other.

Is it transported in big airline chilled containers, well no it is delivered on a little hand cart. These berries are absolutely gorgeous and we go out of our way to pick them up. The best thing is is that they are only slightly more expensive than those sold in our local shops.

Long may places like this continue to exist so that we can get the very best of seasonal fruit at reasonable prices. I will now drift off thinking of these strawberries with ice cream. Roll on the ripening of the wild blackberries.
