Headwind
Wind.
We'd heard that Shetland was windy. I don't think you can find a guidebook that doesn't mention the wind. I wasn't too concerned - we've cycling along the Outer Hebrides and around Orkney (both places notorious for their strong winds) without experiencing anything to bad. How bad could Shetland be?
Well our luck ran out today. Cycling from West Sandwich back to Lerwick, a distance of only 37 miles but 37 miles due south. And the wind today, a strong southwesterly. The wind was so strong that we had to keep peddling to go down hill. I think we must have averaged about 5 mph.
It was with some relief that we finally rolled into Lerwick. Tough day. After a well needed shower (this was the first night all trip that we'd been in a proper campsite!) we treated ourselves to dinner out.
Tough day. At least it didn't rain.
