Taking off the Honey

This is my apiary. The beehives are an American design by the Rev'd L.L. Langstroth.

If for a moment you thought that the individual boxes look a bit like champagne cases then you would be absolutely right! It is said that the first hives were constructed from wine packing cases. I would not suggest for one moment that the Reverend designer himself consumed the contents of the cases.

You can see the hives just at the point in time when this years honey crop will be removed. Just at this stage you can convince yourself that the bees have collected more honey than expected.

It is only after extracting the honey that you find you have been over optimistic.
