1851

Today I went to the 1851 club here in Arlington for the first time. They put on a fantastic drag show, and the atmosphere is extremely fun and inviting. Come as you are and be who you want to be while the performers upend every expectation of identity. Nights like this remind me how futile labels can be. I'm here, I'm queer, and I'm whatever the fuck else I want to be too.

We should have sat closer, and brought more bills, but we know for next time (and there will be many next times, I assure you). A great place and a good time had by all, all including two of my closest friends, Amy and Wilton (the latter of whom I've blipped about before here).

This performer is Alexandra DeVane, and she was absolutely the fucking best (she did Vogue in full Marie Antoinette garb!). Also fantastic was drag king Aidan , who seemed to have sprung right out of the pages of Jack Halberstam's Female Masculinity. But they were all great and gave the audience a fun time.

I think I must have taken this picture right as another camera flashed; that's the only way I can account for the halving of color. Think of it like masculine and feminine, blending together and breaking at the site of the majestic Alexandra DeVane. Imbricated indeed.
