Chalk brood
M had to clear out one hive of bees that is struggling terribly since the main swarm left. Only a few were left and the new queen is struggling to deal with what's left. Apparently this is chalk brood which some queens are more prone to than others. Further investigation is required though if I am going to understand what will prevent it.
So for now, the small swarm have been given new frames to breed in an we will see how they go. The frames in this picture have been destroyed.
This honeybee hobby of M's gets more complicated every week. But it is keeping him busy, which is essential :)
It's been a beautiful day. Unfortunately I've been stuck inside most of the day working on an assessment task that is due by midnight. That's what happens when you leave things till the last minute! Better get back to it...
