Day 11 - Dinner on the balcony, Astoria, NYC
Today we went our separate ways for a while, as Michael wanted to go to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum (which I have already been to on a previous trip to NY) and I wanted to do some window shopping on 5th Avenue (which Michael had no interest in at all!). We met again at 6.30pm and took the cable car over to Roosevelt Island. We were impressed that the fare was included in our weekly metro pass for the subway! We had a walk around the island and admired Manhattan from yet another point of view, then took the cable car back again at sunset.
The photo I chose for today however, is dinner at 'home' on the balcony of the amazing flat we are staying at in Astoria. Salmon and veggies were on the menu, and just behind Michael's head you can see the Empire State Building. The apartment is only 2 years old, in a great and lively location and is wonderfully decorated inside. Our host (from Airbnb) works for the UN and has travelled the world and collected lots of artefacts which now decorate her flat. Also, to enable the apartments to be just a little bit bigger, the elevator opens straight into the living room (with a lockable door behind it of course). And then there is the view of Manhattan. Not just from the balcony, but we can sit in bed and see NYC too.
