Sign of the berries

Took the dog up to the fields for a long walk this morning and found myself reflecting on the signs of a season changing. I do not want to wish this wonderful summer away but experience tells me it will go. And there are a number of blips which are showing hints of autumn.

Berries on rowan trees around are ripening and I was reminded of the belief that a heavy crop of rowan berries was a predictor of a hard winter ahead. Oh dear ....

Of course, it is only an old wives' tale.
