Abbey ruins

We spent a very enjoyable afternoon in and around the old Reading Abbey ruins. The abbey was originally built in 1121 by King Henry 1 and only a few walls remain now (what would you expect after 900 years). You used to be able to go inside - and kids even climbed on the walls - but now it has been closed to the public due to the danger of falling masonary. It was originally thought that £3 million was need to restore it but that figure has now gone up to £8 million. Last I heard work was due to start early 2013 but it hasn't so I dont know what's gone wrong.
