Icarus
Icarus was a character in Greek mythology who was imprisoned on the Island of Crete with his father Daedalus. They tried to escape the island by creating wings with the feathers of birds and flying to freedom. Unfortunately, against his father's warnings, Icarus flew too close to the sun. The heat melted the wax, all the feathers fell off, and Icarus fell to his death in the sea below.
This statue of Icarus stands in the lobby of the National Air Force museum at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, Ohio. We spent a wonderful afternoon at the museum today with our visiting friends Don and Kathy. Don was in the Air Force, and their two sons are pilots in the U.S. Air Force. In this picture, Bob (blue shirt) and Don are standing to the right of the statue.
These is much more that I could say about today. Maybe I will add it tomorrow, but this has been a long day, and midnight is approaching. Night, Folks!
